Yorkshire is home to one of the world’s greatest rail journeys - the spectacular Settle-Carlisle line, which takes in some of Britain’s most unforgettable and unrivalled scenery as it passes rocky crags and rolling hills dotted with colourful heather. It’s a bucket list must do when visiting this beautiful part of the country. Enjoy another relaxing journey as you cruise out of the friendly market town of Skipton along part of the historical 127-mile waterway between Leeds and Liverpool. This 200-year-old canal was one of the busiest routes during the Industrial Revolution with many tales to tell. Visit the grand estates at Harewood and Brodsworth and gain a glimpse into the life of luxury that the families of these lavish homes once enjoyed.
Click here to download Holmfirth's Heritage Trail, a circular walk that takes approx. 1 hour.

Monday
Holmfirth is famous for being the filming location for Last of the Summer Wine – you can even still pop into “Sid’s Café”. This traditional town, in the beautiful Holme Valley, is a lovely spot to stretch your legs before checking in.
Tuesday
Carve your way through the Dales to the Eden Valley on the world-famous Settle-Carlisle Line. Enjoy panoramic views along 72 miles of unspoilt countryside, encountering 14 tunnels and 20 viaducts, including the iconic Ribblehead, before crossing into Cumbria to the historic city of Carlisle. There’s time to find a nice spot for lunch before the return journey.
Wednesday
Spend the day in the friendly market town of Skipton, surrounded by rolling green hills, with calming canal waters running through it. You’ll find great local produce and a welcoming atmosphere at the market from the top of which you’ll see the Gatehouse to the town's impressive 900-year-old medieval castle. We’ll finish the day with a peaceful, interesting cruise along the Leeds-Liverpool Canal with tea/coffee served on board.
Thursday
With its handsome historic buildings and verdant gardens, Harrogate is one of Yorkshire's most elegant destinations. Stroll through the Grade II listed Valley Gardens and enjoy the independent boutiques this morning before we continue to Harewood House, one of the Treasure Houses of Great Britain. Built in the 18th century, Harewood has a fabulous art collection, an impressive display of Chippendale furniture and a rare Bird Garden, all set amongst 100 acres of ‘Capability’ Brown landscape.
Friday
Take a glimpse into the grandeur of Victorian living at Brodsworth Hall which has been considerately conserved by English Heritage. Walk through the grand rooms and the cavernous Victorian kitchen and explore the pleasure gardens, which feature a fern dell grotto and restored summerhouse.
