Take a nostalgic train journey through the Dee Valley and experience the Welsh borders by water on a unique horse drawn barge canalboat and a relaxing cruise along the River Severn. Monday
Check into your canal side setting.
Tuesday
Enjoy a 40-minute River Severn cruise around Shrewsbury, with tea/coffee & biscuits served as you sail. Then, explore this lovely town, which boasts over 600 listed buildings including many black and white half-timbered Tudor properties. This afternoon, visit nearby Attingham Hall, surrounded by beautiful parkland, the Hall provides a fascinating insight into the rise and fall of the great country house estates.
Wednesday
Prepare to be impressed by the skill and artistry on display at the British Ironworks Centre – the UK’s largest metal safari park! Over 100 eyecatching sculptures dot their way through this unique 90-acre site. This afternoon, discover over 700 years of history at Chirk Castle – the last castle from this period that is still lived in today! This medieval fortress features lavish 18th century State Rooms and award-winning gardens. Our coach can return to the hotel between these visits for anyone who would like to spend a half day relaxing by the canal.
Thursday
Over the border to Wales to spend time in the picturesque town of Llangollen. Drift peacefully along the Llangollen Canal, through mountainous Welsh scenery, pulled by majestic horses that have paced this route for over 100 years. Then, board the Llangollen Railway for a nostalgic journey through the Dee Valley, one on the most beautiful landscapes in the UK.
Friday
Time-travel, before you travel home, as you experience the sights, sounds and smells of Victorian life at Blists Hill Open Air Museum (part of the Ironbridge World Heritage Site). Watch craftspeople perfecting their trade, visit Victorian shops and head into the mine!
