Explore South Wales from your base in Carmarthen with the tidal River Tywi running through it and Carmarthen Castle and County Hall standing proudly on its banks. There’s been a market town atmosphere to Carmarthen since Roman times and you’ll still find a lively indoor and outdoor market full of local produce.

We’ll visit The National Botanic Garden of Wales which, in November 2021, won the Institution of Civil Engineers People’s Choice Award for its Regency Restoration Project. The award recognises engineering that has had a positive impact on the local community including two new lakes, bridges, dams, cascades and a waterfall. There's more botanics to enjoy at Cardigan Castle from their Grade II listed Regency style gardens, home to rare species and a new sculpture of Lord Rhys. Look out for changing exhibitions here too, including their new interactive digital exhibitions that uncover the site's extensive history.

Read our 2022 reviews. "A brilliant holiday, loved the town plans, a great help in a new place", "A good mix of visits for all" and "The driver was superb, especially on the narrow roads and bridges". You're due to be in the capable hands of Alan for this tour, he looks forward to welcoming you on board.

We'd be delighted to request more rooms from the hotel for this popular tour, please send through your booking request and we'll check availability.

Sunday

Enjoy welcome tea/coffee at the hotel.

Monday

Step back in time during a guided tour of 900- year-old Cardigan Castle. Medieval walls and castle ruins are accompanied by Grade II listed Regency gardens and historical exhibitions that unlock the story of the site. Next, to the smallest city in Britain – St. Davids. A 12th century cathedral and Gothic ruins add to the character of this quirky destination.

Tuesday

Explore over 200 years of maritime, military and social history at Pembroke Dock Heritage Centre. This unique site houses uniforms, medals, aircraft parts, documentation and paintings that celebrate the history of Wales’ only Royal Dockyard. Spend the afternoon at leisure in the seaside town of Tenby with a small harbour, beautiful soft beaches and a friendly local vibe.

Wednesday

Spend the morning enjoying your surroundings in Carmarthen, on market day, before heading to The National Botanic Garden of Wales. This award-winning site boasts an Apothecary Garden, a Regency Double Walled Garden, the largest single- span Glasshouse in the world, an exotic Tropical House, a recently refurbished café and more.

Thursday

On our journey home we’ll stop in Abergavenny with the Black Mountains as your backdrop. This quaint but lively market town on the edge of the Brecon Beacons is a foodie’s favourite with a host of local eateries to choose from.
