The Victorian's were hard at work in this part of England and you'll find remarkable engineering, horticulture and architecture dotted amongst the rolling hills and mountain tops of the UK's oldest National Park. We'll explore Derbyshire, Cheshire and Staffordshire during our tour of The Peak District, picking out attractive gardens, historical halls and even venturing into the depths of space along the way!

Tour code: C3351

Monday

Enjoy Derbyshire Dales scenery before the hotel welcomes you with cream tea, as your bags are taken from the coach to your room.

Tuesday

Experience a unique river cruise during our morning visit to the ingenious Anderton Boat Lift, an incredible feat of Victorian engineering that raises barges 50ft from river to canal! This afternoon, discover 250 years of horticultural history at Arley Hall & Gardens. It’s thought that their pristine Herbaceous Border was the first one planted in England! Arley Hall itself, with elaborate décor and imposing fireplaces, is a favourite filming spot for Peaky Blinders and Coronation Street.

Wednesday

Biddulph Grange Garden is another Victorian masterpiece with collections from all over the world, taking visitors on a journey from Italy to Egypt to The Himalayas and beyond. This afternoon, journey even further as you learn about Jodrell Bank’s role in iconic events like the Space Race and the Cold War! The internationally recognisable Lovell Telescope has been collecting space data for over 50 years and has been awarded UNESCO World Heritage Status.

Thursday

Enjoy wonderful views as we wend our way through Derbyshire’s pretty countryside to the thermal spa town of Buxton and the charming village of Eyam. Perhaps seek out Buxton’s Victorian Pavilion Gardens (established for 150 years!) and uncover Eyam’s history as The Plague Village in this atmospheric setting. You’ll find a lovely choice of independent cafés and shops in both locations.

Friday

Sit back and enjoy more scenery as we head home over the famous Snake Pass and along the shores of the Ladybower Reservoir to call at Castleton where a piece of the unique, local Blue John stone would make a lovely holiday souvenir!
