Spark your curiosity as you discover some of Kent’s best kept secrets and hidden gems. The north of this beautiful county is rich in river heritage, steeped in aviation and military history with incredible local produce in abundance. As the childhood home of Charles Dickens, it's also perfect for exploring the literary connections to this iconic author. Discover the streets and buildings of Rochester which inspired so many of his works and walk through the pages of history at Rochester Cathedral (donation entry) with its breathtaking architecture, beautifully refurbished crypt café and stunning library collection. Not too far away is the pretty market town of Faversham which boasts an impressive reputation for fine food, excellent local produce as well as being home to Britain's oldest brewer - beer has been produced for over 850 years at the family-run Shepherd Neame Brewery! Whitstable has an equally good food reputation but this time for oysters, be sure to hunt them down in this charming coastal town. Dubbed Kent's ‘Treasure Island’, the Isle of Sheppey offers adventure, escape and unspoilt beaches which are just waiting to be discovered on our guided coach tour of this little known gem.

Monday

Sightsee in historic Rochester, a place cherished by Charles Dickens. You’ll find a Norman Castle, England’s second oldest cathedral and a packed High Street. Enjoy a welcome tea/coffee at the hotel.

Tuesday

Enjoy a fruitful morning at Brogdale Farm, home of the National Fruit Collection. Hop aboard a tractor trailer for a unique journey through the orchards, accompanied by your knowledgeable private guide. In October, the autumnal colours of quince and medlars brighten the trees. This afternoon, enjoy sea air in Whitstable, famous for its delicious oysters! This charming port has been dubbed the Pearl of Kent with its picturesque lanes, artisanal bakeries, boutique shops and art galleries.

Wednesday

Start the day admiring over 300 listed buildings in Faversham as you wander through this medieval market town or along the creek to the quayside shops and eateries. Perhaps pop into the Shepherd Neame Visitor Centre to enjoy a pint from the oldest brewer in the country? Cross over to the Isle of Sheppey for a fish & chip lunch with tea/coffee at the Blue Town and Criterion Heritage Centre – a site dedicated to showcasing the diverse history of the island. From here, take a guided tour along the coast, uncovering the island’s critical role in wartime defence.

Thursday

Visit Canterbury, where the iconic Cathedral, St. Augustine’s Abbey and St. Martin’s Church combine to form a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Spend a moving afternoon at the Battle of Britain Memorial in Capel-le-Ferne. The high-tech and interactive Scramble Experience gives a stirring insight into what The Few went through during the summer of 1940. See replica aircraft and be humbled by the aircrew names inscribed on The Wall.

Friday

Depart after breakfast to spend the morning amongst 900 years of history at Leeds Castle. It’s widely referred to as the loveliest castle in the world with colourful state rooms and beautifully manicured gardens featuring a challenging maze comprising over 2,400 yew trees!
