This beautiful island has the best of both worlds - deep green rolling countryside and endless sandy beaches hosting some of Britain’s best wildlife watching spots. The island has a unique heritage of motorsport, folklore, Vikings and smugglers and you’ll find nods to it all across the island at its many attractions. One of the best ways to experience the island is with a ride on the original Victorian and Edwardian rail lines and we’ve arranged no less than three heritage journeys for you to enjoy. The IOM Steam Railway, Manx Electric Railway and Snaefell Mountain Railway are all winners of a 2023 Travellers’ Choice Award from Tripadvisor – this is only awarded to attractions that are ranked within the top 10% and consistently earn great visitor reviews! Click to download heritage walks in Douglas and Castletown, these self-guided walks from Visit Isle of Man will allow you to get to know the area at your own pace.

Tuesday
Tour this scenic island, starting in the ancient capital of Castletown with picturesque fishing cottages along the harbour and a superbly preserved Viking castle. Next, visit the secluded beauty spot at Niarbyl Bay. This is one of the island’s most picturesque locations and on a clear day you may see Ireland’s Mountains of Mourne in the distance. Finish in Ramsey with its beautiful long sandy beach, promenade and Victorian pier.
Wednesday
Enjoy time at leisure. Relax on the beach, visit the Manx Museum, the Promenade Gardens or amble around the local shops & cafés in the island’s capital.
Thursday
Start the day in Peel, a beautiful bay with a long sandy beach enclosed by a medieval castle, harbour wall, red cliffs and a promenade selling local tasty treats. Ride out to the island’s southernmost tip to enjoy some of the nation’s greatest scenery from The Sound (where you’ll also find a delicious café), before boarding Britain’s longest, narrow gauge railway at Port Erin. The original locomotives offer a nostalgic way to experience the island’s charming countryside as you ride back to Douglas.
