Enjoy an early spring break on the English Riviera, staying in the seaside resort of Paignton with its traditional Victorian pier and long sandy beach. Enjoy refreshing walks along the prom or a a gentle stroll around the picturesque harbour from your hotel's seafront location. Perhaps the most interesting building in the town is Oldway, an opulent mansion built in 1874 by Isaac Singer (of the sewing machine family). Apparently some of the features were copied from the Palace of Versailles!
Much of Devon is designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, head inland to experience the seemingly endless scenery of Dartmoor National Park where wild ponies roam in this rugged protected landscape.
Tour code: C3389
Monday
Enjoy welcome tea/coffee and evening entertainment from the hotel.
Tuesday
Steam your way from Paignton to Kingswear along this scenic heritage line, then take the foot passenger ferry over the River Dart to Dartmouth and board the boat for a 60 minute circular River Cruise. You’ll pass Dartmouth Castle and Agatha Christie’s Greenway House – look out for wildlife along the way too. There’s free time to wander in the picturesque naval town of Dartmouth before we return to the hotel, with entertainment this evening.
Wednesday
Spend the morning at leisure - perhaps stroll in to town along the seafront or make use of the hotel leisure suite. Finish the day with an afternoon of peace and serenity at Buckfast Abbey. The impressive 11th century Abbey is complimented by spacious gardens, a restaurant and gift shops.
Thursday
It’s all about Dartmoor National Park today, starting with a morning break in the only town in Devon to hold a World Heritage status – Tavistock.
