Start the day in Suffolk's beautiful market town of Woodbridge, on the banks of the River Deben and just on the edge of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Amongst the great choice of shops and restaurants we also recommend a wander along the riverside paths to Tide Mill - an 800 year old working tide mill and one of only two left in the country! You may even be lucky enough to spot a local seal as you make your way there.
Then on to Sutton Hoo - the famous Anglo Saxon burial site uncovered by Edith Pretty and amateur archaeologist Basil Brown on the eve of WWII. Over 80 years later and this fascinating site continues to shed light on the Anglo-Saxon 'Dark Ages' - it seems hard to believe that a site that still holds so many mysteries can have uncovered so much already. Visit the Royal Burial Ground, see a full-size replica of the Anglo-Saxon ship found buried here and uncover the real-life story of 'The Dig', made famous by the popular Netflix movie. There's also 245 acres of grounds to explore with some wonderful trails.
The coach is due to arrive in Woodbridge at 11:45 and depart at 13:45, setting down and picking up at Deben Pool. Then on to Sutton Hoo, arriving at 14:00 and departing at 17:00, giving you a full afternoon to soak up this fascinating site. There will be a short services comfort stop on the outward journey. National Trust Members receive free entry to Sutton Hoo (don't forget your membership card). Just ask for our fare only rate in special requests (£37.50 for seniors/children, £39 for adults).
