Be quick - two seats have just become available for this sell out tour. You might also like Famous Graves at Highgate with Lunch on Mon 23 Sep or Cambridge Architectural Treasures on Fri 18 Oct.

Two thousand years ago Romans enjoyed indoor plumbing at their villas but until 200 years ago Londoners were still throwing their chamber pot contents out of the window! In 1858 the long hot summer became The Great Stink as raw sewage from the growing city emptied into the Thames, turning it into an open sewer. Something had to be done and that something was one of the most remarkable feats of civil engineering ever seen. Sir Joseph Bazalgette's 'Cathedral of Sewerage' at Crossness Engines is one of the quirkiest visits in London! It's not open to the public so expect an exclusive and fascinating tour from a friendly guide.

Our expert guide will set out the back story during a coach tour around the city streets before you glide along the river to Greenwich to visit the ‘Cathedral of Sewage' where you’ll not only see some spectacular Victorian ironwork but also learn about the workers who cared for the building and kept Londoners safe from disease.

Great customer reviews: "Fantastic. We enjoyed the extra talk about The Thames and the industry across the water from yesteryear to today. Amazing.", “It was great and somewhere I would never have gone” and “A very interesting and enjoyable day out in London. Great from start to finish. The drivers and Blue Badge Guide were excellent”.

We're due to meet the guide in High Holborn at 10:30 with a hot drink and biscuits on arrival, but please bring a picnic lunch with you. Round off your day with another hot drink (included) before heading home at 16:30. There will be a services comfort stop on the return journey.
