Enjoy a 2-course lunch in Hampstead before exploring the wonders of Highgate Cemetery, London’s most famous burial ground! You’ll be taken on a guided tour of Highgate’s West Cemetery, home to some of the site's most impressive architectural features (and open only to visitors on a 70 minute guided walking tour). You’ll see the Chapel with its beautifully decorated interior, the Colonnade, the Egyptian Avenue, the Terrace Catacombs and the Circle of Lebanon. You’ll also have an hour or so at leisure to explore the East Cemetery where famous residents include Karl Marx, Douglas Adams, Jeremy Beadle and Max Wall.
Customer favourite, read our reviews: "His [the guide] enthusiasm was uplifting, his knowledge encyclopaedic and coupled with his telling of interesting anecdotes, I could have listened to him all day. I'm tempted to say that he brought the whole place to life!!!" and "This should appeal to anyone remotely interested in a wide range of subjects such as history, personalities almost forgotten, conservation, and the environment. Highgate Cemetery is an unexpected haven for wildlife, and for interesting wildflowers and trees. Every grave has its story to tell."
Lunch choices: Braised chicken breast in mushroom sauce (GF) with seasonal vegetables or baked aubergine with caramelised onions, sundried tomatoes & goats cheese with baby spinach, followed by bread & butter pudding with custard. Please let us know your choice of main and any dietary requirements at the time of booking.
We're due to arrive at 12:00 for lunch in Hampstead, at 13:30 we'll transfer to the West Cemetery for our 70 minute (approx.) guided tour with free time to explore the East Cemetery before we depart at 16:15. There will be a short services comfort stop on the outward and return journey. Please note there are steep paths and two flights of stairs in the West Cemetery that can sometimes get muddy, so appropriate footwear is recommended. There are no toilets or refreshments available at Highgate.
